I’m Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter (book review)

Julia’s sister, Olga, died in a tragic Chicago bus accident, which leaves Julia to fill the “perfect Mexican daughter” role. Julia feels alone because no one seems to acknowledge her hurt and pain. Julia’s mom only wants her to be perfect. But after digging around her room, Julia learns that Olga wasn’t actually the “perfect Mexican daughter.” As Julia continues to rebel against the perfect standards she is supposed to fit into, she learns more about her sister and herself. I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter is a beautiful novel about being a Mexican American and finding your identity even if it doesn’t fit into standards set for you.
