Perhaps you remember Leeya’s article from Bringing Food to Life about Garland; how the flavors of the dishes she had at Cheeti Kumar’s Garland, a restaurant located in Raleigh, reminded her of various family members. We are sad to say that Garland closed on August 27. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t see Kumar’s work elsewhere. She and her husband are beginning a collaboration with the bakery, Anisette, in the upcoming year. The bakery is located on 209 Bickett Blvd. and is undergoing renovation now. We will be sad to miss the masala kettle corn, a delicious pre-appetizer from Garland, and all of the other creative, flavorful dishes that were served there, but have high hopes for Anisette, which was already a tasty place to grab a baked good! It is true that Kumar’s food brings back memories and reminds us of cherished moments and people. We can’t wait for the bakery to open to see what Kumar has dreamed up for the world to taste!
